Rekha's hero Peter Jennings once said: "There
are a lot of people in this business who believe that part of
our job is to reassure the public every night. I subscribe to
leaving people with essentially a rough draft of history."
And that's what Rekha Muddaraj strives to do everyday as a member
of the News 8 team.
Rekha comes to San Diego from Pittsburg, KS
where she worked as reporter and fill-in anchor for the CBS and
FOX stations. Rekha had the unique opportunity of covering news
in four states - Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma - and
also covered several stories that became national headlines.
A family rule to watch the evening news everyday
is what's mainly to blame for Rekha's eventual career in journalism.
Born and raised in Phoenix, Rekha attended Arizona State University
and graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. She
has dual degrees in journalism and political science. Rekha completed
many internships, her favorite being her summer job at the Washington
D.C. bureau for the British network, ITN.
"It was an election year - which is always
exciting - but I also learned first-hand about American politics
through an international perspective. What an eye-opener!"
At ASU, she also served as the president of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural
Sorority, Inc.
Rekha is a member of SAJA, the South Asian
Journalist Association. She is a first-generation American and
loves to visit her extended family in India as much possible.
Rekha enjoys reading, traveling, exploring San Diego with her
fiance Neil, and attempting to become as good a cook as her mother.
