Kelly joined the News 8 team in February 2007 after spending three
years overseas as an American Diplomat in Tirana, Albania and
Brussels, Belgium. She worked at the American Embassy in Brussels
serving as the Brussels Weekly newsletter editor, a publication
prepared for Embassy, U.S. Mission to the European Union and U.S.
NATO employees, family members, and expatriates throughout Belgium
and the world.
Before her overseas stint, Kelly was the main anchor at KSVI/KHMT
in Billings, Montana for the 6, 9 and 10 p.m. award winning newscast.
She also did a weekly report testing consumer products; her "Does
It Work?" segments proved to be a major success in the community.
It was in Yuma, Arizona where Kelly began her broadcasting career.
She was the morning and noon anchor at KYMA delivering the news,
weather forecasts, and latest sports scores. Kelly also found
time to anchor an entertainment segment on radio station KLJZ
FM/Z93. Working and living in Yuma was most memorable for Kelly
because it is where she met her future husband, Jay.
Prior to news reporting, this former Jet Beauty hosted the Detroit
show "Video Vibe", where she interviewed many well respected
leaders and entertainers in the music and television industry
including, former President Clinton, Sidney Poitier, Aretha Franklin
and many more. Kelly also anchored the "Caribbean Festival",
a 12 hour live event with more than 250,000 people in attendance.
Another standout moment included emceeing the Emmy nominated "Jazz
Jewels" for BET which brought together legendary stars, spotlighting
their talents before a national audience.
A Michigan native and Wayne State University graduate, Kelly is
married to a 1stSgt in the Marine Corps. They have two children,
Stephen Jr. and Karrington.
