"Living and working in San Diego is a dream
come true."
For years, Barbara-Lee Edwards charmed Canadian
viewers on Winnipeg’s CTV, but in her heart, she always wanted
to live and work in California. So when News 8came calling, she
packed her bags and headed straight to San Diego. You can find her
as co-anchor for News 8 at 5pm, 6:30pm and 11pm every weeknight.
Barbara-Lee also tackles the latest medical issues,
breakthroughs and discoveries in her exclusive “Health Alert”
reports every Monday and Wednesday at 5pm and Tuesdays at 11pm on
News 8.
Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Barbara-Lee has an Associate of Arts in Drama/Music and a Bachelor’s
degree in English/History. But it wasn’t long before she was
bitten by the TV news bug.
While studying broadcast journalism at the British
Columbia Institute of Technology, Barbara-Lee landed her first job
at an AM radio station in Vancouver. But soon television sparked
her interest and she got her first TV job at the Global Television
station in Vancouver. There, she had a variety of positions including
weather and sports anchoring.
In 1994, she moved to the Global affiliate in
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she did a two-year stint as an anchor/producer.
It was there that she met her husband, Curtis, who's a news and
sports photographer.
Barbara-Lee’s next stop was at the CTV
affiliate in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she worked her way up to
senior news anchor. Then, she and her family made the jump to California
– and News 8.
“San Diego is a wonderful, dynamic place.
My whole family loves it here – and the weather is great!
” says Barbara-Lee. When she’s not having fun in the
sun, you can find Barbara-Lee lending a helping hand to her favorite
charities: The Children's Wish Foundation, Big Brothers and Big
Sisters, and the Breast Cancer Society.
